Dear Reader,
You can use generative AI ethically.
To date, I haven't heard a sound approach for dealing with the ethics of Chat GPT, so I was keen to hear this month's meetup, AI Ethics for Designers, by Pete Armitage...especially since Pete is a UX writer.
How would an ethics expert and UX writer think about Chat GPT?

Oppenheimer and Barbie premiere tonight, and somebody finally made a "Barbenheimer" trailer:
βWatch the Barbenheimer trailer hereβ
Some people suggest seeing both movies in one night, and there are guides about which order to see them and why. I think it's safe to say this "double-premiere" thing was an organic meme thing because the studios don't appear to have really embraced it. I shudder to think of the marketing execs meeting in board rooms to plan co-premieres at this very moment. I kinda feel like anyone that watches Barbie and Oppenheimer on the same night is going to get a raw glimpse into the belly of the beast that is late-stage capitalism. Which brings me to my next question: are you more of a Barbie or an Oppenheimer person?

Assumption Olympics: Why I Always Win Gold in Overreacting By Hannah Baker Dear Reader, I once pitched a new workshop format to a team of collaborators. One person nodded slowly and said, βHmmβ¦ okay.β That was it. I smiled. Externally, totally composed. Internally? I sprinted up a mental staircase of conclusions: They donβt like it. Theyβre being polite. They think Iβm not strategic. This was a bad idea. Iβve blown this opportunity. Maybe Iβm not cut out for this work. I didnβt realize I was...
Monetizing at the Cost of the User Experience by Jeff Humble Dear Reader, Companies don't like to consider how customers can be annoyed by monetization. Companies are always looking for ways to monetize their assets. Even attention is monetized these days. As we'll see in two examples, monetization can make or break the user experience. Monetizing Fail: Yahooβs Decline (1990s-2010s) Yahoo used to be the tech darling of the internet, much like Google or OpenAI is today. The company had humble...
How to Build Comfort with Ambiguity By Hannah Baker Dear Reader, You're expected to lead even when you have no idea what the hell is going on. (I know, youβve heard the next part a million times. Bear with me.) The world is moving faster than ever. Technologies shift overnight. Markets pivot on a dime. And somehow, youβre still just trying to get everyone to show up to the team meeting. We all know this, weβre surrounded by it. The speed, the volatility, the endless flood of decisions....
